About Falljokull Glacier Tours

Why this site exists

Search for a glacier hike in southeast Iceland and you get a wall of near-identical listings that never say which ice you are actually walking on. Three tongues sit within 15 km of the Skaftafell visitor centre. One is walked by tours, one is a viewpoint at the end of a trail, and one is closed by Civil Protection because the mountain above it is moving.

This site covers the first of those, Falljökull, in the detail we wanted when we were booking: hours on the ice rather than hours on the clock, group sizes, minimum ages, and what the operator hands you at the meeting point.

How the tours here are chosen

Everything listed here departs from the Skaftafell base and walks Falljökull. We read the operator's terms, the itinerary and the last two years of reviews before a tour goes on the page, and we write down what is missing from the price as well as what is in it.

• It has to walk on Falljökull, not a neighbouring glacier or a viewpoint trail
• It has to be run by a certified glacier guide with gear included in the ticket
• Ratings and review counts are the operator's own, printed as they stand
• Prices are checked against the booking platform and dated on the page
• If a tour hides a cost in the small print, that cost goes in the comparison table

How we make money
